Children's Week is an annual worldwide event that celebrates the right of children to enjoy childhood and to recognise their talents, skills and abilities.
'A Caring World Shares' is the theme for Children's Week, encouraging everyone to share in promoting the health, learning, development and wellbeing of all children.
In 2008 Children's Week will take place from Saturday 18 to Sunday 26 October, with Universal Children's Day celebrated on Wednesday 22 October 2008. 2008 is the international year of Sanitation, Planet Earth, and the Potato.
More information will be available later in the new year regarding Children’s Week 2008.
Children's Week was celebrated all across Victoria in 2007, with many fun-filled events for children and families held by local councils and organisations.
Close to 7,000 children and families attended the launch of Children's Week at the Melbourne Zoo on 21 October. Along with regular zoo attractions, the crowds were entertained by Dorothy the Dinosaur, cultural dancers, live music, dance demonstrations, face painting, story telling and animal feeding.
Some of the fantastic events held by metropolitan and rural organisations included:
Special local council activities ranged from art activities, health lifestyle activities, pram strolls, fun runs, ‘Let's Read!’ celebrations, picnics in the park, concerts, parent seminars and children's expos.
