Children's Week

Children's Week will be celebrated from 18-26 October 2008 to coincide with Universal Children's Day on Wednesday 22 October 2008.

Children’s Week is a national event recognising the talents, skills, achievements and rights of young people . It is based on the articles expressed in the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child, highlighting play, wellbeing and protection.

The Department works in partnerships with local governments, Victorian schools and early childhood services to host activities during Children's Week that focus community attention on the needs and achievements of children and young people as they thrive, learn and grow. The activities are based around this year's theme of A Caring World Shares.

Highlights of Children’s Week will include:

  • Children's Week Launch - Come and see  Dorothy the Dinosaur at a family fun day out at the Melbourne Zoo, Sunday 19 October, 2008, with free entry for children under 15 years of age, see: What's On
  • Calendar of Events -a variety of activities have been planned across the state by schools and family and children's services, see: What's On
  • Early Years Awards – these awards are presented by the Department to celebrate early years partnerships that are working to improve the health, learning and development of children and are aimed at making communities more child and family friendly.
